Organic Winegrowing

Organic viticulture faces major challenges — especially in wet years. This project from the Baden wine region shows how it is nevertheless possible to cultivate grapevines sustainably, in a climate-adapted and successful manner.

The organic cultivation of grapevines requires a good understanding of natural relationships. Fungal diseases such as powdery mildew and downy mildew pose a high risk, particularly in the humid climate of southern Germany. The project combines scientific findings with practical measures to prevent crop failures and protect the environment and soil.

Practical, sustainable, effective

The focus is on preventive approaches: fungus-resistant grape varieties, adapted soil and foliage management, and the targeted use of approved organic plant protection products. These are supplemented by forecasting and monitoring systems, which enable timely action.

A clear annual calendar shows the most important measures from winter rest to harvest and makes it clear: Successful organic viticulture is the result of a coordinated combination of care, observation and experience throughout the year. With the right knowledge, he can be economically successful even under difficult climatic conditions and at the same time contribute to environmental and climate protection.
